INITIATIVES
Here are some of the initiative we're working on right now. In the months to come, we will unveil more projects focused on career advancement for employees of color, community outreach in underserved communities and more. Click here if you'd like to get involved.
RECRUITMENT & COMMUNICATION
The Diversity & Inclusion Committee works with senior leadership to promote job listings - both internally, through newsletters and emails, and externally, through social media posts - in an effort to create a pool of diverse and qualified candidates from which hiring managers can interview.
We also aim to support colleagues, especially those from diverse backgrounds, by gathering company resources and sharing them in a monthly newsletter that is sent to all 240 Express-News employees. View a sample of our newsletters by clicking the images to the right.
SPEAKER SERIES
The Diversity & Inclusion Committee launched its speaker series in June 2021. The first event featured Express-News Reporters Vince Davis and Taylor Pettaway speaking about their experience interviewing Black elders for a special project in honor of Juneteenth titled "Lift Every Voice."
Moving forward, the Diversity & Inclusion Committee plans to host around five different events a year. Some aim to help employees of color navigate the workplace and advance their careers. Others will focus on current events and how the newspaper can improve its coverage of traditionally underrepresented communities.
